Social Action
The mission of the Social Action Committee is to:
- Encourage congregant participation in a wide range of community projects to serve and empower those in need;
- Coordinate and increase congregant participation in a variety of ongoing TJC social action projects, e.g., Kol Nidre food drive, blood drives, Thanksgiving food basket preparation, and expand this project list as appropriate as we work with local nonprofits such as Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS), Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), the Crisis Ministry, Homefront, and others
- Work closely with Early Childhood Education and Religious School staff as well as School and Youth & Family Committees on social action projects;
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Committee to encourage congregant participation in “green” initiatives within TJC and the local community;
- Facilitate various ways to do symbolic Jewish outreach to the Jewish community locally.
Our core beliefs are:
- Guide and educate (through this web site, the newsletter, and other resources), and facilitate the work of other committees;
- Promote and enable social action by congregants
- Work with and through the Vice President of Programming to assure proper coordination with other TJC activities and schedules;
- Act as the coordinator and clearinghouse for all the ways our congregants, students and staff can work with local nonprofits and service agencies.
