Religious School News:

 

The Spring trimester will begin on Tuesday, February 21. By now, you should have received the class assignments for your children. Please review to ensure that your children have the  correct assignments; contact us, if any changes are needed. 

 

We are going to offer a new club, Jewish Comics for students in grades 5 and 6. This club will be limited to ten students, so please let us know if your child would like to enroll as soon a possible. The other clubs offered in the spring will be Krav Maga for 5th and 6th, Israeli games for 3rd & 4th, cooking and newspaper.

 

Parents, If you can volunteer to help during the club time, please let me know. The clubs are scheduled on Sundays from 11 a.m. -12 noon.

 

Shabbat Services & Classes: 

  • Zayin Torah Class at 9:30 -10:30 a.m. in the Youth Lounge. Parents are welcome to attend.
  • Vav Seminar  is 9:30 -10:30 a.m. with parents to study the Shabbat morning service in preparation for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Vav Seminar is in the school building.
  • Junior congregation is 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. and in the Beit Midrash at 10:30 a.m.- noon for Gimmel and Heh students.
  • Shabbat LaMishpacha (Family Shabbat). We  welcome Rabbi Tucker back to the Jewish Center! She will lead Shabbat LaMishpacha on February, 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Infusing Your Child with Jewish Identity

 

An Interactive Workshop

 

Sunday March 18, 2012 from 9-11

 

At The Jewish Center

 

Facilitated by TJC congregants/parents Jeff Savlov and Monica Blum this workshop will include a brief overview of how identity, in general, is formed and developed and will lead into a brainstorming session among the attendees. All participants will receive a compiled list of the group's ideas for instilling Jewish Identity. This list will also be shared with the congregation in the newsletter so that all TJC members can benefit.

 

Jeff Savlov, MSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Psychoanalyst and shares a practice in Highland Park, NJ with his wife, Monica Blum. In addition, he consults to business-owning and wealthy families around the interplay of family and business with a particular focus on helping these families articulate, and live by, their fundamental values so as to instill them in subsequent generations.

 

Monica Blum, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and shares a practice with her husband, Jeff Savlov, in Highland Park, NJ. Monica has expertise in working with children, adolescents and families with specialization in trauma, particularly sexual abuse. She provides supervision, consultation and trainings to professionals, schools and community organizations in the areas of child/adolescent development, relationship issues, and trauma

 

 

 

 

Tichon  

 

This Wednesday, February 1, was the first session of the Tichon spring semester. We have been busy planning a great spring program for our students and are looking forward to their participation. Please read the information below.   

 

Tichon Spring Semester Core Courses:

  • Grade 9 - When Bad Things Happen to Good People with Cantor Mike Weis
  • Grade 10 - Media Torah Values with Rabbi Feldman and Neil Wise

Youth Programming: 

 

Please see the TJC youth groups and upcoming events below. Event flyers are in the last section of the email. 

 

All youth group dues have been included in your synagogue bill. If you have any questions about your child's membership status, please contact Neil Wise at nwise@thejewishcenter.org

 

 

 

 

Nitzanim is a  youth group for students in 1st and 2nd grades. Students will participate in a variety of creative social programs throughout the year, related to the Jewish holidays. Programming in this group emphasizes fun, games and learning. TJC children will enjoy doing all the activities at The Jewish Center.

 

Upcoming Program: This Sunday - February 5 at noon, Tu'Shevat Seder

 

 

 


Haverim invites all 3rd thru 5th graders to join together once each month for an afternoon or evening of fun with other Jewish children. Haverim is designed to provide the children with fun activities, while promoting friendships that will grow stronger through their youth group years. Members will participate in social activities, community service events and holiday celebrations. 

 

Upcoming Program: February 11, Laser Tag

 

 

 

 

Kadima offers TJC 6th and 7th graders the opportunity to participate in youth programs with other Jewish children in an informal social atmosphere. Participation is sure to instill positive feelings in your child's identity, as well as, open the opportunity for new friendships and a lot of fun.  The Kadima youth group has been redesigned and will offer a varied schedule of exciting programs. 

 

Upcoming Program: February 19, Snow Tubing 

 

 

 

 

Teen Programming is focused on the TJC teenagers. Like Facebook and Twitter, we create a social network for all our teens. It doesn't matter what school they attend or where in the community they live. They will have the opportunity to connect with each other at TJC and participate in local events. For those interested in the wonderful programs that USY provides, we will include all the information they will need for regional USY programs and conventions.
